Representatives from Allegany County Tourism and Economic & Community Development met with the preservation organizers to discuss Rising Phoenix.
The discussion was constructive and helped clarify that county acquisition is not currently a feasible route because of the approaching deadline, funding limitations, and questions concerning public ownership of a property with a religious mission.
County representatives indicated they would try to share the opportunity with contacts who might be interested in acquiring or operating the retreat.
This was an offer to help make possible introductions, not a commitment to purchase, fund, endorse, or manage the property.
As a result, the preservation effort is focusing primarily on finding a qualified acquiring organization or individual, while exploring whether community financial support could assist an eligible purchaser.
