Reverend Margee Iddings built Rising Phoenix around a mission of Christian love, hospitality, healing, and new beginnings.
She offered women facing hardship meaningful work, belonging, and a fresh start. Those women, in turn, shared their stories and encouragement with paying guests, whose stays helped sustain the mission. Margee gave faith, care, and welcome, and received friendship and blessings in return.
Together, they formed a circle of blessings serving something greater than themselves. We may understand faith differently, but we can share one united goal: to love one another.
Rising Phoenix itself was created for this very purpose. According to her longtime caretaker, Margee personally helped shape every detail, from the round buildings and communal fireplace to the cedar siding and even the colors of the walls. Nothing was simply an afterthought. Every choice was made with intention, reflecting the welcome, healing, and belonging she hoped people would find there.
The auction closes October 27. We urgently need someone willing and able to carry Margee’s torch forward.

If we begin with just 11 people, and each shares this message with 11 others, who then do the same the following day, the mathematics suggest that this message could theoretically reach nearly 556 quadrillion people by October 27!
Of course, we don’t have quite that many people on Earth. But here’s the encouraging part: just 0.0000015% of that theoretical total would be enough to account for every living soul on the planet. I think we could consider that a perfectly acceptable outcome for this campaign!
And somewhere among all those people, perhaps there is just one person or organization willing and able to pick up and carry Margee’s torch forward.
We do not need to accomplish God’s whole plan ourselves. We simply need to take the next small step in love.
A torch that reaches beyond a building
We hope to preserve Rising Phoenix. Whatever happens to the building, we can keep carrying its spirit of Christian love into the world: make room at your table, listen with love, help someone begin again, welcome across differences, and keep showing up.
Here is a small invitation from this preservation campaign: make room for Jesus. For one week, step back from unnecessary media noise and make more time for a Gospel, prayer, supportive community, and everyday kindness. Over the following week, notice which habits help you listen patiently and love your neighbor. Keep what helps. This is an invitation to grow in grace; it is not a test of whether you can be saved.
